Darren Hale, P.E., CEM
Prior to serving as the director, Darren served more than a year as the associate director of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance division of Facilities Services. He also has over 20 years of experience in facilities operations and energy management. Before joining UT Austin, he was a commander with the United States Navy Civil Engineer Corps from November 1999 to May 2017. During that time he served in several capacities, most recently as assistant regional engineer where he oversaw the budget supporting eight installations across Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia. Previously, he provided leadership for naval facilities operations, military construction, public works, capital investment and humanitarian assistance projects at various U.S. bases throughout the world. He also deployed to Afghanistan, where he oversaw the construction program to rebuild infrastructure for the Afghan armed forces. Darren is a registered Professional Engineer and Certified Energy Manager. He obtained his Master of Science degree in civil engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and his Bachelor of Science degrees in civil engineering and mathematics from Vanderbilt University.
Associate Director, Custodial Services
Sally Moore has worked for The University of Texas at Austin since 1979. She joined the university as a custodian (Building Attendant II). By April 2008, she had moved up the ranks and was promoted to Associate Director of Facilities Services responsible for the Custodial division. Under her direction, Custodial Services has become nationally recognized for its training program, “green” cleaning, and overall cleaning excellence. In 2018 alone, Custodial Services received national awards for contributions to the cleaning industry, including recognition for best workloading program, best training program and best overall cleaning program.
Scott Griffin, PMP
Associate Director, Facilities Operations & Maintenance
Scott has nearly 30 years of experience in facilities management. Before joining UT, he served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Colonel. During that time, he served as an Air Force civil engineer officer, where he held various positions, including three commands and five combat deployments. He served in various capacities where he oversaw facilities and infrastructure operations and maintenance across numerous installations worldwide. His most recent position was as a division chief on the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, DC. Scott holds a master’s degree in engineering management from the Air Force Institute of Technology, a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University, and a bachelor’s degree in engineering mechanics from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is also certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
Assistant Director, Facilities Services Support
Debra brings over 36 years of experience in management and customer service. She joined UT Austin in Facilities Services in 2011 and began work on planning and organizing the department’s Facilities Service Center (FSC), which launched successfully in September 2013. Prior to UT, Debra worked for United Airlines for 31 years. During her time with the airline, she was the general manager of the 24/7-based Airport Operations in Austin. Her responsibilities involved oversight of more than 50 customer service representatives and management of the facility’s $2.2 million budget. She created cost-efficient work schedules and analyzed various metrics to ensure all operational and customer service goals were met or exceeded. She also standardized procedures to improve worker safety and efficiency.
Associate Director, Landscape & Integrated Building Services
Bridget has more than 31 years in design, construction, and facilities services experience, with 17 of those years in facilities management. In addition to her responsibilities as associate director, Bridget serves as the department’s emergency operations officer and special projects liaison. Prior to joining Facilities Services, she worked for Phillips Petroleum, Oregon Health & Science University, Matrix Architects Engineers Planners, Inc., and for the Houston Zoo as director of facilities. She brings a unique combination of experience from the manual drawing board to hurricane preparation for nearly six thousand animals. Bridget holds a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in anthropology from the University of Oregon and an Associate in Applied Science degree in drafting and design technology from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
Quentin has more than 16 years of experience in accounting and financial management. Prior to joining Facilities Services, he worked in UT Austin’s Accounting and Financial Management for three years providing accounting and financial management support to Information Technology Services (ITS). Prior to UT, he was a contracts and grants manager for a non-profit, Caritas of Austin, for two years. Before that, he worked for Goodwill Central Texas for over 11 years, the last four of those years as director of financial analysis. He also served 11 years as a federal law enforcement officer with the Department of Justice – U.S. Border Patrol prior to completing his formal education. Quentin holds an MBA from Cornell University and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics, minor in finance, from New Mexico State University.
Terry Batemon, CSP
Terry has four years of direct experience as a safety professional. He has worked in various industries, including construction, environmental, and manufacturing. Prior to joining UT, he worked for Georgia-Pacific for the last two years. In 2019, he became the environment, health and safety (EHS) manager for the Corrugated facility in Mount Olive, Illinois.
Terry is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He graduated from Indiana University’s School of Public Health, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and also received a master’s degree in safety management.
